In Memoriam: Russell Betts

Russell Francis Betts

April 2nd, 1938 – Jan 8th, 2024

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Russell.

Russell was born to Rhynold and Beatrice (Armstrong) Betts in Munising, Michigan in 1938. He lived in Munising until attending Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, graduating in 1961 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.

While working in Omaha, Nebraska as a young man, Russell met the love of his life, Faye Taecker. In 1962, Russell and Faye were married in Watertown, South Dakota and went on to have three sons. The family lived primarily in Wisconsin while the boys were growing up, and then Russell’s work took him to Iowa and Texas. They returned to Wisconsin in November 2023 to be closer to family.

Russell, age 85, passed away peacefully at home in Mondovi, Wisconsin on January 8, 2024.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Gretchen Hammond, and brother Robert Betts. Russell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faye Betts; his sons Michael (Rachel) Betts, David (Dori) Betts, and Timothy (Tamara) Betts; grandchildren Katie Betts, Rebekka (James) Steele, Patrick (Mollie Bailey) Betts, William Betts, Haden Betts, Adelaide Betts, and Ellaina (Ayden) Strate. Also surviving are many sisters and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, 264 E. Main St, Mondovi, Wisconsin. A fellowship meal, at the church, will follow the service.

Russell will be interred this summer in Munising, Michigan.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother Russell.
